Paragard: The copper iud devive is not supposed to affect your cycle. If any it will increase some the amount of bleeding that you see during the first couple of months.  No method is 100%  effective. Always consider pregnancy if you missed yuor period.

i haven't had a menstrual cycle in 18month after having one injection of depo provea then had 2 normal cyles for 7 days this month its lasted 3 weeks?

Dysmenorrhea: Annoying and not uncommon to have changes in menstruation related to any kind of hormone intervention. It would always be prudent to have a visit with the OB/GYN doctor as well as take a pregnant test. There are medicines that can "restart" your normal cycle again.

i dont know whether i am having my menstrual cycle or not. although i am due for one, i do not have any symptoms of it and it looks unusually watery. i am highly concerned?

: Symptoms and character of your menses can vary considerably, usually with no obvious cause. If you are having bleeding and you are due it is most likely a normal period. If you have reason to be concerned about pregnancy a home pregnancy test should be positive at this point.

is it normal to all of a sudden experience an extended menstrual cycle when haven't had one in years since getting mirena (levonorgestrel)?

Accepted Answer

Not normal: This doesn't happen to most patients with mirena (levonorgestrel).  It could indicate breakthrough bleeding due to the progestin hormone in the iud, could be due to an ovarian cyst, or - possibly due to a pregnancy (that is rare, but possible).  Should definitely check a pregnancy test, and see doctor if it persists.

Not during menses: I believe you are asking if it is possible to only ovulate during your menses, which is the part of the menstrual cycle where your uterine lining sheds and leads to the menstrual bleeding.  That only occurs AFTER ovulation, and never during it.

Mensturation: Yes, but please check a pregnancy test.

Alcohol a culprit?: People should learn how to drink rationally, not to abuse alcohol. That is if they are not alcohol dependent. I don't believe an episode of too much drinking can cause a menstrual cycle.

Accepted Answer

Menses: Normal range is 21-35 days.  Two periods in one month is probably too close together.  Should be checked.  If you are on birth control pills it is easier to control the bleeding.  Situational problems, stress can cause missed or extra periods.

See below.: If you did not have unprotected sex, there is no need to worry. Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

Yes: If you've taken Plan B, you can have irregular bleeding for a cycle or two.
