does testing positive for hpv when married mean cheating? my life is upside down right now due to testing positive. husband says he has not cheated i believe him but this is wrecking our marriage. is this common. obgy is no help?

: Latent HPV infection is very common until it becomes symptomatic with genital warts, abnormal PAP smear, etc. Trust each other if you have nothing to hide.

i've been tested for hpv with my pap smear annually for the past 3 yrs.this year my hpv test was positive.  does this mean i have always had hpv and just now showing up or did i just recently get hpv?

No just acquired: Hpv infection that causes genital papillomas , and in some cases carcinoma of cervix , you got it now , did not have it before, get it eradicated , it is difficult but not impossible, speak to your gyn doctor first.

i have only had one sexual partner for the last 16 years, now my pap is positive for hpv. does that mean he cheated, or could i have been having it?

Means nothing: Everybody has a few strains of HPV, and when they'll pop up and when they'll decide to hide is known only to them. Plus, there are lab errors. I'm glad you have someone special, and there's nothing to be gained by searching for possible infidelity.

3 years in a row my pap has come back positive for hpv. last year i had a colposcopy and it was fine. now another is scheduled, what does this mean?

HPV: Human papilloma virus is a very common virus amongst women and is responsible for abnormal pap smears. Your body usually clears the virus in 2-3 years but persistance means that it can cause cervical cells to change. You can have HPV and itself is not an issue as long as your pap smears are normal.

HPV: You have the ability to transmit the hpv to your partner.  Protection with a condom is essential to prevent spread of the disease.

New acquisition: Once the HPV test shows antibodies to the virus it should remain so for your lifetime. You may not show any visible sites, but that's how the tests give us a timeline.There is always a possibility that an earlier test was falsely negative

Coding?: If you are portuguese or brazilian or hispanic, this probably refers to the classification used to code categorize pap smear results.  It is a coding system not a diagnosis.

HPV : It means that you do not have any precancerous cells or precancerous changes in your cervix but the hpv virus is present. Hpv is so common and routine testing with a pap is not usually recommended until after age 30. Most young women will simply clear the virus on their own without treatment.
