Quality is the issue: There is no evidence the olive product is harmful.  It is really a matter of quality and strength.  I is much like a car, you can travel in a junker or a new mercedes.  You may get where you want with either vehicle but you will more likly get there with speed, eas and comfort with the mercedes.

Haven't heard of any: New extracts, often with similar health claims (anti-oxidant, anti-aging, anti-stretch marks, anti-biotic, etc...), show up on the market every day. Marketing material usually refer to some non-scientific science that leads to some wonderful testimonials from people. There may or may not be anything good about olive leaf extract.

Safe to try: I couldn't find anything in the nih database, but there's an online claim that one "private" (i.e., unpublishable) study "showed" an effect. Herpes infection is serious and your physician can help you manage it; unless he/she objects, you're free to supplement with olive leaf as well. Good luck.

Doesn't matter: I don't know, but it really doesn't matter.  There are lots of things that kill hiv, such as soap and water.  Killing HIV isn't the answer.  The answer is to stop HIV from replicating and to be able to eliminate latent infection, which olive leaf extract won't do.
