Accepted Answer

No: That is a myth. Watching tv will not affect your vision. But you can get eye strain which can make your eyes tired - this is especially true with computer monitors. It is not permanent though - rest will fix it.

for the past week when i have been doing random things i have seen "stars" dancing across my vision. once in shower , or sitting watching tv, etc. why?

Get eyes checked 1st: Could be the "spider lines" aura of a migraine that doesn't necessarily manifest into a full blown migraine.  Or could be some issues with your eye/eyes.  I would see a dr. Right away.

No: We watch movies in the dark!  same differnce.  Glare may be a problem for you, however.  Enjoy!

Accepted Answer

It can be.: Many people will have some degree of misalignment between their two eyes when fatigued.  This is called a phoria.  It is normal.  Patients will experience double vision temporarily, but should easily be able to eliminate the double vision by "refocusing".  Double vision that does not go away or happens frequently is abnormal and should be evaluated by an eye doctor.

There is none.: Watching tv may affect your mind, but it does not harm your eyes or vision.

Not vision as much : As it delays acquisition of language & social communication, because it provides no reciprocal social interaction. The aap recommends no screen time till age 2 yrs. Talk to her with her face ~ 12" from yours; smile & mimic her good $ coos. Get down on the floor for tummy time play with her. Customize the aap's healthy child app for your baby's age. After 2 yrs., limit screen time to 2 hrs./day.

is there something wrong with my vision? my family says i watch tv out of the side of my eye.  i don't notice until they point it out.  my vision was last tested a year ago and i have 20/20.  is there some other condition i could have that would cause me

If : If you do not have double vision, then you are likely doing okay. If you're 20/20 in both eyes, your eyes are aligned, and you do not have double vision, then there is little to work about.

i have good insurance, but terrible vision. how much should i expect to pay out-of-pocket to get lasik done? i'm 27-years old, and i am near-sighted. i currently wear glasses to work, drive, watch tv, etc. i'd like to get lasik surgery in the near future.

In : In dallas, we go as low as 1800 per eye in some cases---so the range up to 4000 for both eyes sounds about right.

I would get a : Second opinion. Make sure the doctor who does the eye exam dilates your eyes ,  or does a complete thorough exam.

The : The symptoms are not typical for a migraine alone. You noted two distinct and dramatic  symptoms (double vision, blur), separated in time, and i think you indicate a headache as well. More history will help to zero in on the problem, and if you were my patient i'd have you come in promptly (i.e. That day) to figure out what's going on. While migraine (which can change in presentation over time), loss of control of a pre-existing eye muscle imbalance, and/or surface irritation would be the most benign cause, other, time sensitive and potentially dangerous situations should be investigated immediately. You might have a vascular cause needing immediate attention (e.g. Transient ischemic attack, temporal arteritis or other inflammations) or other issues. My advice: see your eye md asap.
