what is the down side to gastric bypass?

Malnutrition : Vitamin defiencies and malnutrition are common side effects. It can cause anemia, hair loss and fatigue. Unfortunately, gastric bypass can't be reversed.

is there a diet that i can go on to shrink my gastric bypass pouch back down to the size that it was. have lost over 200+ want to go another 50 lbs.  ?

Probably not: Diet alone will not shrink the pouch.  However, limiting your portion sizes should help.  Be sure you are limiting high fat foods and carbohydrates.  Most people eat too much of these.  If you limit them you should lose weight.  Also, are you exercising?  If you walk daily it should help with weight loss.  Be sure to talk with your doctor about a good goal weight.  Good luck!

at my work they have an out break of norwalk virus i am just  returning to work after recent gastric bypass what are the risk is this safe for me?

Knowledge is key: Norwalk viruses are found in vomit and stool. You can get it by eating/drinking contaminated products, touching contaminated things, having direct contact with a person who is infected. People are contagious from when they begin feeling sick until at least 3 days after they are better. Wash hands often, avoid food prepared by someone infected and clean contaminated surfaces often.

i am a 28yo woman, 2yr.post op gastric bypass. i am often nauseas & go days vomiting keeping.only liquids down.what could be the cause? dr says im fine

Pouch problems: Can your esophagus and gastric pouch checked out for anatomical problems. You need a scope of these.

had gastric bypass in 2005 and teeth  keep breaking i now have 5 broken teeth and they even break on soft foods am taking vitamins regularly?

Maybe a conincidence: Gasttic bypass is unrelated to breaking teeth. I would not expect to see the two problems together unless there was some coincidental bulimea.... Often times teeth break secondary to a high caries rate. This can be hereditary or more likely it can relate to poor oral hygiene.. It can also relate to a hereditary condition that results in malformation of the teeth like an enamel formation defect.

if someone who already hardly eats cant lose weight, would gastric bypass work since its basically making you hardly eat??

: First- This is a myth. You cant gain weight unless you eat- many people have this perception till they concentrate on their intake.  So pl keep a strict tab on your intake, exercise and get a medical check up. Good luck

diagnosed me with bile induced gastritis. wants to do a gastric bypass. in my 40's,(5'4", 203), but isn't there a less invasive answer?

Options: Probably theist popular weight loss operation at the moment is a sleeve gastrectomy. Its not really less invasive, but has less potential for long term side effects. There are also some newer endoscopic therapies, but they are not so effective. Ask your doctor if a consultation with a Bariatric surgeon is appropriate. Hope this helps!

s/p gastric bypass sugery by you 12/2010. i have a high pth level w/low calcium levels , 4 tests all high, can this be parathroid cysts? scan was ?

You need calcium: Don't know if your surgery hindered your ability to absorb calcium/vitamin d, but it sounds like you are deficient.  Pth hormone acts by increasing calcium levels in the blood, so this appears to be high as a response to your low calcium.  If it were a PTH problem, your calcium levels would be abnormally elevated along with the PTH level.  Also, calcium & vitamin d absorption are related.

when after getting a gastric bypass can i start chewing agian?

Chewing??: Chewing is not the issue.  We usually put people on liquid diets before and after surgery so the new pouch does not become overloaded with volume.  Once the suture lines are healed you can eat more solid foods...A gradual re-introduction starting at two weeks.
