About antibiotics...: The current thinking is that except for rifampin, other commonly-used antibiotics (such as doxycycline and many others) do not alter the effectiveness of birth control pills. This is likely presuming a person is not sick with vomiting or rapid diarrhea, or some other condition that decreases the absorption of a swallowed pill. This is debateable: But we just recommend using back up contraception only while taking the antibiotic. But check with your doctor, because there are many different opinions on this.

You can: To tell you the truth, no one really know if there is any problem or none. However, based on the knowledge of pharmacology, after you stop doxy, you should be able to resume your bcp without any serious side effect.

Birth control: If you are taking oral bcp's, it is true that some antibiotics can interfere with absorption of the hormones contained in the oral bcp's, but there is no reduction in effectiveness unless you begin to have bleeding or spotting when taking the antibiotics while on the active pills, just as you might if you skipped a pill or two.

No: Medicines taken together can sometime interact making one or both more or less effective than they should be independent of each other.  This is one such case in which Doxycycline decreases the potency of the birth control pills and you could find yourself pregnant.  You will need another form of contraception while taking doxycycline.
