Get checked: Any time you have bad diarrhea after taking antibiotics, or while taking them, you should get checked for clostridium difficile infection, which requires a stool exam.  In the meantime, avoid milk products, since having diarrhea can make you temporarily lactose deficient.

Possibly: Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic which has the capacity to alter your normal bowel flora (types of bacteria) and to promote the outgrowth of other organisms.  Clostridium difficile colitis can be a life-threatening disease.  The probiotic may help to prevent this, but many of the organisms in probiotics will be killed by Doxycycline so it may be a double-edged sword.  Hard to predict.

: Side effects of doxycycline include: Diarrhea, Difficulty swallowing, Drug rash, Esophagitis, Facial redness, Headache, Hives, Small intestine &amp; colon inflammation (enterocolitis), Loss of appetite, Low blood sugar, Low levels of white blood cells or platelets, Skin hyperpigmentation, Skin peeling (exfoliative dermatitis), Tongue swelling, Tooth discoloration, Upper abdominal pain.
