i've been told i have hypothyroidism, how come i don't have many symptoms?

Often mild: Many people with hypothyroidism have no symptoms or very mild symptoms. The severity of symptoms isn't directly affected by the actual thyroid hormone levels either.It is partly affected by how quickly the levels changed. A gradual decline can often go unnoticed even with pretty low levels, but people who have a sudden drop ( like after surgery) are often more symptomatic.

please help! what happens if i don't take my hypothyroidism meds on a regular basis?

Incompletely treated: Hi. Your doc adjusts your thyroid dose assuming you're taking it everyday. She/he will adjust it higher until your thyroid function is at goal. If you then start taking it everyday all of a sudden, it could make you hyperthyroid. Try to remember to take it - you might feel better! Good luck!

It depends on levels: Many people with mild hypothyroidism don't feel any different. Occasionally, even people with severe hypo feel normal. Severe hypo can lead to heart disease so it should be corrected even if the person feels well. In mild cases, this is questionable.

i had a physical at work and it said i had hypothyroidism.  i don't think i have any symptoms other than getting cold easily. how worried should i be?

See your physician: I wouldn't worry, but i would make an appointment with your family physician and get thoroughly checked out. Sometimes, low thyroid has very few symptoms.  A simple blood test, along with a basic physical, should help clarify the diagnosis.  Get checked.

i gained 10 lbs in 3.5-4 weeks. i dont believe i changed much about myself. i do have hypothyroid that am on medicine for. could that be cause?

Weight change: It could be many things, but thyroid dysfunction is a common cause of weight change.  Since you have already been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, this is where I would start first.  Definitely get some labs done (including, of course, thyroid labs).  Perhaps your medication simply needs to be adjusted.  I hope this helps.

No: That is not a sign of hypothyroidism. However, if you already do have hypothyroidism, make sure your levels have been normalized with brand name T4 replacement.

Possible: But there are many more common causes for weight gain, like eating more than you burn off through activity. It's easy to have your doctor check your thyroid level to find out.

Labs , no insurance: Many labs will allow patients to prepay for tests at a huge discount. You don't need insurance to take thyroid meds.

i'm diagnosed as sub clinical hypothyroidism very recently.i don't get any medication yet.what are the diets should i take?

No diets: 85% of subclinical hypothyroidism is due to autoimmune hashimoto's thyroiditis. No diet will change the 3-4% yearly decline to frank hypothyroidism. In the world i deficiency is the #1 cause of hypothyroidism - but not in the us - so no diet will help.

my obg/yn told me that i have hypothyroidism and sent me to specialist. they ran some tests and said i don't have it. what should i do now?

Follow closely: Thyroid labs can change during pregnancy.  There may have been a false positive initially.  Repeating labs during the pregnancy will reveal a change.
