Sometimes just changing your lifestyle can work.Some weight loss,exercise  and dietary changes may fix the problem.If not, this is easily controlled by meds.

Boys in puberty get erections on and off during the day (can be embarrassing). Men can get erections with examinations by any sort of doctor and sometimes for no reason, even without an exam. The penis has nerve connections that can make it do things on its own.

: Glans penis and shaft. Feel testicles to estimate size and for lumps and bumps.  If you were ever a chimney sweep then look at your scrotum to see if you have cancer of skin there.  Should also test reflex to see if you testicles move up when inner leg stroked. Depending on why they are doing if (you did not say) they may also do a rectal exam to feel prostate.  Ok to ask before if concerned.
