Potassium and HIV: Checking one's potassium level will give you no information on the HIV status of that person. The most common HIV tests look for HIV antibodies in your body, rather than looking for HIV itself. Ask your doctor for more information.

Absolutely not!: Think about it: it takes weeks for your hair to grow. Analysis will tell you what your minerals were weeks ago. Potassium and magnesium levels, which are important for your heart's rhythm, can change day to day. A blood sample gives you immediate data which is what is necessary for decision making.

Don't do it: Inject 50 ccs of 50% dextrose in water intravenously along with 10 units of regular Insulin intravenously. That will drop your potassium very quickly.  I don't recommend it though, unless you're on a cardiac monitor, usually in an icu.

Would avoid on HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide): For most people the master cleanse would not be dangerous for 3 days (but i don't advise it) but it could be dangerous for someone taking hydorchlorothiazide  as that medicine causes potassium depletion and the master cleanse only provides 245 mg of the recommended 4700 mg of potassium each day. Diamox: Diamox is a mild diuretic. If you have no kidney disorder and are not taking any potassium sparing medications like lisinopril, for example, you could safely take a potassium supplement daily and have your serum potassium checked periodically under your physicians direction.

dr changed my diclofenac potassium to sodium, not sure why? but i've felt intense flushing/hotflashes, & heartbeating fast, feeling odd, is it normal?

No: There Re some people who notice a difference in effectiveness between these medications even though the active ingredient is the same.  The side effects you are describing are. To normal with this change.  It is always possible you are having an a usual side effect from the medication.  Ask your doctor to switch you back to be sure.

Why: asking this hypothetical question? You don't need to drink potassium chloride supplement if your potassium level is normal, and the body has  good buffering systems in the blood and kidneys to maintain normal potassium levels, unless toxic amounts of potassium are taken/given !!!

Low potassium levels: Usually the body regulates potassium levels well, but certainly both underlying conditions, such as kidney issues and medicines you take, can influence the level.  While your level of 3.1 is not dangerously low, it certainly is a concern if you're experiencing multiple lab reports with low values. You should make an appointment with your doctor to discuss this. Also look at the PPI use.
