Probably not "normal: Since oral contraceptive pills are believed to prevent ovulation and they are often used to alleviate menstrual cramps too, it would be best to request a gyn evaluation (history, pelvic-abdominal exam, pregnancy test and a pelvic sonogram...)  to seek the cause of your symptoms and answer your concerns.

Yes: Hormonal contraception improves or eliminates menstrual cramping.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Birth control pills (containing hormones) can be used to help other conditions besides birth control. The pills can help women with acne, frequent periods, heavy periods, etc...  If one just wants non-hormonal medication for menstrual cramps, a primary care doctor or an ob-gyn doctor can help, after an evaluation to be sure nothing unusual is happening in the body.

Give it time: Usually cramps improve after starting the pill, mostly because menstrual flow is decreased.   Since you are just starting you should wait a few cycles for your body to adjust to it.

Dysmenorrhea : Birth control pills not only regulate and lighten your period but they do markedly decrease the cramps that accompany it. Dysmenorrhea is the name for painful periods, and you may want to consider resuming your pills if your periods continue to be very painful

Pelvic pain: Pelvic pain is complex as there are several organs in the pelvis. The ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, bladder, appendix, intestines, colon and rectum can all be the source. Pelvic pain requires and examination to help organize the evaluation.  Switching to a generic pill should not be related if chemically it is the same as the name brand.

i have really bad menstrual cramps. like too the point where i cry. but my mom won't let me do birth control.. what is therr i can do too help pain?

Yes: Nsaid’s, ssri’s, hormone meds, otc meds containing diuretics, warm bath, heating pad, exercise ; acupuncture are excellent for pms / period. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, alcohol ; salt. Get gyn eval to r/o underlying pathology. Consider omega- 3 fatty acids, magnesium (supplementation or through diet) or black cohosh with dr ok. Sipping chamomile ; green tea can dissipate pain. Ginger helps w nausea.

Maybe: Women all feel different things on the pill. Usually there is an adjustment time on time on the pill that can last 3-6 months.

See below: Sounds like some heavy duty symptoms that could be pms/pmdd.      Blocking ovulation can help (any variety) or your can take medications in the antidepressant family to help even out your hormones.
