No: A pap test looks for cervical cancer. It can't tell how long ago you had sex or if you ever did.

hello i had sex today ( oct 30 friday)and i have an appointment for a pap smear test on tuesday in the afternoon will this affect my results?

No: absolutely not.  PAP testing is a  scraping of the outer mouth of the  cervix to test for pre-cancerous and cancerous cells, and for Genetic analysis of the presence of papillomavirus infection in your past.  A prior infection puts you at increased risk of cervical cancer.

i had a smear test 2-3 after having protected sex with a new partner who is  promiscuous. came back negative, does this mean he didnt give me hpv?

Dunno but ...: You can have a test done for antibodies that you have against any of a number of several strains of HPV. The newest vaccine in US protects against 9 strains of HPV. HPV-16 causes 50% of cervical cancers, HPV-18 causes 25%. You have to get 3 shots- time 0, 1 month, 6 month. In US they recommend starting at 10 years of age for both boys and girls.

i am due to a smear test but i am not sexually active. no oral sex either. do i still need to have this test done?

Probably not but yes: A Pap test is still a recommended screening to women over age 25 for  the early detection of cervical lesions which may become cancer. It is true that if you had never been "sexually active", the risk of a cervical problem is very low (but not zero). If you had genito-sexual intercourse     with a man at any time in your life, there is unfortunately a possibility of past exposure to  HPV. Be safe.

If smear test was : Recently, then the brown discharge could be some old blood from the pap and exam. Keep an eye on it. Follow up with your doctor regarding your 6 month pap result, and discuss any persistent problems, such as discharge/bleeding with him/her. Good luck!

Sex should not: Affect your paps smear. I presume your dr didn't obtain much endocervical cells to render the smear unsatisfactory for accurate reading. Take care!

Maybe: Dysplasia (precancerous changes in the cervix) is most often caused by hpv virus infection.  Having sex with a man who carries hpv can cause this.  Most women have been exposed to some type of hpv virus if they have ever been sexually active.  In young women with mild dysplasia, their immune system usually fights off the hpv infection and their pap smear becomes normal within 2 years.

No necessarily.: Your symptoms can be caused by many other benign conditions. The pap smear was the right first step to as part of your work up. Most patients with cervical cancer will have an abnormal pap smear which should then be followed up with a colposcopy examination of the cervix with biopsies.  Cervical cancer or pre cancerous condition known as dysplasia can be diagnosed by colposcopy.

Depends: The speed of your pap smear results depends on the laboratory which is analyzing the sample.  You should, however, usually have the results in no more than a week.  If you haven't heard, call your provider.
