Is it a period or: Spotting? If spotting ; you are sexually active then take a pregnancy test. If it is a period then you aren't pregnant. Not to worry if menstrual blood is brown - that is just older blood being cleaned out of the uterus.

Irregular bleeding: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Cant tell by that: There are no reliable signs that can predict pregnancy. Be patient and do a pregnancy test if you dont get your menses. You should be taking Folic Acid if you are contemplating a pregnancy.

Wait and see: If your period actually comes in 4 days and this persists then you need to be checked.  These symptoms sound a lot like midcycle (ovulation) symptoms so don't be surprised if you period does not arrive on schedule.

Not pregnant: You said your pregnancy test is negative. On cycle day 42 a pregnancy test is going to be very accurate. You are not pregnant. Schedule a visit to have the abnormal vaginal discharge tested for infections. Also you can discuss options for cycle regulation

Question cut off?: I am not sure what your question is.  Brown discharge is usually old blood being cleaned from the uterus.  Your  period may be  irregular because of a temporary hormonal imbalance. Take care.

Hormonal imbalance: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.
