Puzzling question: Excessive pigmentation in a collar like distribution at the back of the neck can be a sign of a pre-diabetic condition. I have never seen it prior to the teen years and its association is with type 2 diabetes, not that of early to mid childhood.

Acanthosis nigracans: This is a condition where the pigment around the neck darkens.  It can be a sign of type i diabetes.  Show it to your doctor.

May not be dirt: If you have tried soap and water and the dirt is not coming off it may be hyperpigmentation or darkening of the skin. Schedule an appt with a Doctor to look at your skin.

Skin changes: This is likely acanthosis nigricans -- a hyperpigmentation of the skin, usually found in skin folds (like the back of the neck).  This may be associated with obesity or underlying endocrine disorder, so it is best to have your doctor take a look and order some basic blood tests to rule out diabetes or thyroid disorders.  Exercise and attention to diet are often helpful.

Color is not dirt??: You may have a pigment coloration change that maybe related to an endocrine abnormality. Acanthosis nigricans
skin disorder characterized by hyperpigmentation and hyperkeratosis, occurring mainly in folds of skin in axilla, groin, and back of neck; occurs in diabetes and poly cystic ovary syndrome.

May not be dirt: You can have a darkened area at the base of the back of your neck as part of insulin resistance, an early sign of type 2 diabetes. I would have this checked.

Human Life: It would be impossible for dirt to be there for any length of time. Now do you have some irregularities in the color or texture of your skin, yes, of course. But, that is not a disease or medical condition of concern.  Congratulations on losing weight!

i have a brown spots all over my neck and my dad thinks it's dirt but it won't come off when scrubbed. i wear a nickel plated necklace cross everyday?

Possibly an allergy: Nickel is a very common allergy, so that is a definite possibility. You might try wearing no necklace for a while to see if that makes a difference. There are some other "brown spot" rashes that can occur on the neck, but that would be a good thing to try first. Good luck to you!
