so i'm 39wks and 2days and i lost my mucus plug? is labor approaching? and is it possible to dilate etc. without feeling any contractions?

Yes and yes: Cool that you got to see passage of your mucus plug! A lot of patients miss that special moment. Absolutely you can dilate without feeling it. You'll start feeling it when your body ramps up the speed and the little munchkin starts to put pressure on the thinning, dilating cervix to descend down the vaginal canal.

Labor : Labor causes one to do this. If this is happening to you and you are less than 37 weeks please see your doctor right away to be evaluated for preterm labor.

No: Braxton Hicks contractions occur through out the second half of pregnancy and are felt by some but not all women, especially first pregnancies.  Cervical dilation and effacement can our without feeling and unrelated to BH contractions.

Braxton hicks : Some drs. Believe that braxton hicks  play a part in toning the uterine muscle and promoting the flow of blood to the placenta. They're not thought to have a role in dilating the cervix, but might have some impact on the softening of the cervix. However, as braxton hicks contractions intensify nearer the time of delivery, they are called false labor and can minimally dilate and soften the cervix.

Braxton Hicks: The contractions(braxton hicks) that you are experiencing are the warm up for the concert that will soon begin. When  actual progressive labor begins, your cervix will dilate an there is nothing that you can do to alter those events. 'if the apple is ripe, it will fall off the tree'.

Early  Labor: You need to be patient.  Maybe  take a  walk, warm  bath and  a light meal.   Labor  takes  time  .  Eventually  the  contractions  will be consistent and come  closer.

No: The definition of braxton hicks contractions are false contractions but do not cause your cervix to dilate. If your cervix is dilating, they are real contractions.

Nothing really: You really don't want contracts closer together then every 2-5 minutes.

Not really : If you have contractions that are causing cervical dilatation and effacement, we would call it labor, in your case preterm labor. If you are having labor contractions, we would not call it braxton hicks contractions. Hope that helps.
