Diclo: Either way is not completely safe. Any NSAIDs can cause kidney function problems or stomach gastritis and bleeding. Suggest in moderation only and not long term

See dr: Is it hot and red and swollen? If so then you should see the dr that gave you the shot. Could be that you just had a bad local reaction and application of ice, over the counter Hydrocortisone ,  as much Saran lotion for the itching , and some Ibuprofen or aleve (naproxen) may help. 3 weeks is a bit long so you might consider getting it checked out by the doctor . These are things you can try while waiting.

Spine Pain Options: This chronic pain in the distribution as you suggested is the result of an irritated nerve or facet joints or other injury typically in the lumbar spine (low back) which are caused by herniated disks, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease,  etc requiring further evaluation by a spine specialist and may be candidate for facet injections/radiofrequency ablation and epidural steroid injection.

Both are good: Both of these medications are anti-inflammatory medications that work block the chemicals in your body that cause pain (prostaglandins) .  Different people respond differently to different ones.  Some are prescription controlled and some are not.  Ibuprofen is generally great but you have to take enough of i'd and don't wait until you are already in a lot of pain to start.

Why injection????: This is one of several nsaids. They are generally used orally & most are otc. There are always risks including allergy & stomach bleeding. They are popular because most people tolerate them & they are effective for several things., including menstrual cramps.

Pain at injection: the medication liquid may cause local irritation.  You can ask your doctor to add a small amount of lidocaine along with the IM injection to help with the pain. Good luck

I recommend going back to the hospital emergency room now for more examination and testing.
