Initially, yes: Vomiting is a presenting symptom with intestinal viral illness, since it is often a secondary infection to respiratory viral illnesses, but with peristalsis and gravity to assist viral exposure, the lower GI tract eventually gets exposed and symptoms will progress to abdominal pain , cramping, and diarrhea, mucous in stool, and in severe cases GI bleeding

Include low grade fever to begin with, but can get upto 104f; sneezing, coughing, pharyngitis, weakness, fatigue, malaise, anorexia, pneumonia with sob or pleuritic chest pain, nasal discharge, ear infection, prostration, dehydration;etc. Treatment, may include, acyclovir, an antiviral; antibiotics; IV hydration, hand washing; keeping separate towels, covering mouth & future vaccination.

Not unsual: for some stomach viruses to have BIPHASIC symptomatology (Symptoms occur then subside, then recur!!)  WASH HANDS...KEEP DISHES SEPARATE

You : You may be dealing with a bacterial infectious process. For this you will need antibiotics. Your doctor may want to do some tests of your stool to check for certain pathogens prior to treatment. In the meantime maintain hydration and eat a bland diet until you improve.

Likely this is fine-: Most likely this is the continuing loose stools that can happen after AGE.  As long as there is no blood, mucus or clay color, this may last for 7-10 days.

Most likely: The common viral gastroenteritis usally takes about 5-7 days to run its course(no pun intended).  If your symptoms persist; or if you have any additional symptoms best to see you doctor for an exam.

"BRAT diet": Continue to encourage hydration with simple fluids: water, electrolyte replacement fluids etc. Steer clear of dairy products and sweetened drinks (juices, "koolaide" etc). Encourage bland, easy to digest foods like: saltine crackers, dry toast, oatmeal, rice cereal, bananas, apple sauce.  Her GI tract needs a little time to recover from the gastroenteritis.

Clear liquid diet: It is imortant to keep the infant hydrated and prevent dehydration if he is vomiting. Therefore clear liquid diet is preferred. If the mother is breastfeeding she should stop solid foods and continue breastfeeding frequently. There are no over the counter medication to cure vomiting and diarrhea.

Yes, can be viral: The order of diarrhea and vomiting doesn't predict whether what you have is viral since can present both ways. Should you have  bloody diarrhea or fever over 102 F then would go to your doctor. More than likely you have viral gastroenteritis and will run its course over 3 to 5 days.  Can try some peptobismol
