9 weeks pregnant, ate mcdonald's then about an hour or so later had almost diarrhea, could i have gotten listeriosis?

Accepted Answer

Not so fast: You wouldn't develop symptoms of listeria so fast if it came from that meal. It is likely you had something incubating before hand. A food reaction to one of the toppings might go through that fast but that is an intolerance/allergic issue not an infection. Most diarrhea is viral.

Question 2

i'm 9 weeks pregnant and have had diarrhea for the past 3 days. is this a sign of a miscarriage or can this be normal?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: It is not likely that this is due to a miscarriage in the absence of other symptoms.  It is either a brief viral enteritis, something you ate that disagreed with you, etc.  Relax, don't get ahead of yourself and create problems where there may not be any.  Good luck and have a great baby.

i'm 9 weeks pregnant with diarrhea and just took one imodium (loperamide). was this terrible!  i'm scared i have hurt the baby. please help.

Don't worry: I let my pts take Imodium (loperamide) when preg but u need to take what your OB recs and if the diarrhea does not go away then u may need antibiotics or other meds.

Gastroenteritis: Stay hydrated drinking water if you can tolerate it. Most cases resolve quickly. The treatment is not different when pregnant vs when not pregnant. See a doctor if diarrhea persists and does not resolve.

Call your OB MD: You need to call your treating OB MD for advice. If you haven't seen a OB GYN then go now.

After only 2 days?: That would be very unlikely. Give it a chance to resolve on its own.

instead of constipation, i'm having loose stool 1-2 times a day, my doc said its not diarrhea. what can i do to stop it? 9 weeks pregnant

follow doctor: It sounds like you have already been evaluated by your doctor. If you continued to be concerned then return for follow up and ask for further testing. Going to the bathroom twice a day does not seem particularly abnormal.

Constipation is : Probably more common early on. Early pregnancy sxs can include: lack of period, breast swelling ; tenderness with darkened areolas, fatigue, increased urination frequency, constipation, bloating, heartburn, backache, cramping, headache, food cravings or aversions, increased sense of smell, enlarged waist, feeling faint/dizzy, mood swings, increased gas, insomnia, gagging more easily ; yawning.

are loose stools normal in early pregnancy?  is it possible that this is how my body is dealing with morning sickness?

Loose stools: Loose stools are probably due to a dietary change brought on by your morning sickness and decrease appetite. Don't worry, your appetite will come around and you'll have the chance to get fat.

is black loose stools during pregnancy first trimester normal?

Accepted Answer

If on IRON: The iron in the prenatal vitamin, or if you are even on a supplemental Iron pill can cause the stool to be black.  Call your GYN to assure you are on an iron supplement.  If so, most likely fine, but at next visit, you could always have your stool checked for heme to be safe.  Best wishes.
