what is the definition or description of: diabetic kidney problems?

Poor fuction: The diabetes Melitus affects the part of the kidney which filter urine. These are called glomeruli. The dibetese causes the fine blood vessel in the glomeruli to close down, resuting in that filterstion function gradualy decreases to a point that both kidneys stop working. Therefore  urine accumulates in the blood. it can be detected by doing blood tests( urea,creatinine).
This is permanant.

Not your fault: Diabetic mothers have a slightly increased risk of having babies with congenital abnormalities. However vast majority of diabetic mothers have perfectly normal babies, although they tend to larger at birth than babies born to non-diabetics, who can also have similar problems. Sympathize   with your loss.

BG control: In people with dm and kidney problems, good control of blood sugar is essential. Controlling BP to under 120/80 is also key. Finally, especially if your urine contains detectable protein, medications called ace inhibitors (or related arbs) slow progression to renal failure. Discuss with your pcp or endocrinologist- they should be very familiar with this. Existing damage may not be fully reversible.

Studies have shown ace inhibitors to be protective of kidneys on both normotensive and hypertensive patients.

LowProtein/HighWaste: Protein loss into the urine can cause low protein levels in the blood, and lead to swelling in the feet and ankles late in the day, and around the face in the morning.  High levels of waste products and potassium and low levels of calcium can cause fatigue, weakness, heart problems, bone problems, and sudden death.  Dialysis is needed to correct these imbalances.

why is small stuff floating in my urine making it cloudy? (i think its protein but im still concerned) i don't have any kidney problems but diabetes runs on my moms side of the family.

If : If you notice that your urine appears abnormal, you should have it checked by your doctor.  Without a urinalysis, it's impossible to know whether it is protein, fat, white blood cells, or even crystals making your urine appear cloudy.  Even though some of the reasons for this can be harmless, others are more concerning and can even be life-threatening.  Better to be safe than sorry, so get it checked out.  Good luck!
