Cold Sores: Cold sores presents as sores on the lips , tongue, gum or buccal mucosa in children. It is caused by the herpes virus. It generally resolves spontaneously in 3 - 7 days. It may be recurrent.

Not very: Most adults will have had the hfm process as a child which confers immunity to the strain involved.However there is more than one strain  of virus involved and occasional outbreaks among adults do occur.

Rhinitis regime: Use a bulb syringe to remove mucus. Use salt water nose drops frequently yo clear his nasal passages .Use a cool mist vaporizer. Give him  a half teaspoon of one of the various over the counter antihistamines twice a day.

Maybe: Maybe not.  There are no rules here.  People are exposed to all kinds of viruses but never develop symptoms.  Just don't be surprised if they do.  Treatment is supportive, tylenol/ibuprofen for fever, push fluids, (popsicles are good here).  Stay out of school or daycare until fever gone and no new lesions. Wash hands frequently and well!  Good luck.

Viral illness: I'm sorry your daughter isn't feeling well. It sounds like she has a viral illness, possibly a virus that causes hand-foot-mouth disease. This is self-resolving, but please make sure that she is well hydrated. Her mouth and throat may hurt, so she may not eat as much, but keep her hydrated. Smaller amounts more frequently. Children's Tylenol (acetaminophen) will help with mouth pain. See doctor if not better.
