i got a shallow dermis cut on my thigh 2 days ago, and today the scabs are looking black in some spots. i've been cleaning the wound every day and it doesn't show signs of infection. should i be concerned or is this normal?

: It is normal. Leave the scab alone and it will fall off when the underlying epithelium has regenerated.

Why would you???: Unless there is some medical reson for doing this, why would you want to cut over and over again in same place? Please explain?  Besides infection and scarring, you coul sustain injuries to deep structures such as nerve, tendon, muscle bone. Furthermore, it could cause adhesions and interfere with function or interrupt blood supply and cause delayed healing.

Most of the time only topical medications are required, but before that, an accurate diagnosis has to be made.  Some of the white itchy vulvar conditions can lead to scarring in the area and must be treated promptly.

Keep next appt.: Sometimes the spot may be due to position of the x-ray or bone marrow space enlargement.  In absence of problems, i.e. Swelling, pain, etc., it is sensible to wait till next visit for evaluation.  A tooth vitality test can be done to check to see if tooth is vital.  Root canal is usually done to treat the problem you are discussing.  A referral to a root canal specialist is usually done.

: Normally an infection would cause more than a small spot on your tampon. Keep an eye on things but don't rush to judgment. If you feel fine and notice nothing further you should be OK.
