Alcohol dependence ie addiction is higher.  A daily drink doesn't make you an alcoholic but episodic binge drinking does if every time you drink there is no control. Addiction involves loss of control, continued use despite neg effect.

No ETOH withdrawal: Where you onr medications  like xanax (alprazolam) , valium, librium  gabapentin, Topamax? as they may blunt the response. Also how long ago did you cease drinking as withdrawal may be delayed for several days ~10 . rarely people may not experience withdrawal. there is a report of a remote population in Australia who were denied alcohol suddenly and did not experience withdrawal. Falls: Depending on his metabolism and general health, my concerns would be less about the pacemaker & more about falls. As he gets up to urinate in the night he may be more likely to fall, break a hip & end up with greater problems.

Red wine good: Drinking a glass of red wine can be very good for your heart by lowering the bad cholesterol and increasing the good one. It helps fight cancers by being an antioxidant and may even help decrease the risk of kidney stones. Always remember too much is not good either.
