SurgeryOnlyOption: Umbilical hernias may be easily repaired under general anesthesia as an out-patient. Depending on the size of the hernia and other patient-factors, we often advise using mesh to close the hole (like patching a tire).  I  advise hernia repair if it is causing symptoms that are interfering with one's quality of life, or if the hole is so large that there is the potential for intestine to get stuck.

I suppose....: If there is a sliding-type inguinal hernia, with colon contained within the sac, perhaps incarcerated, a colonoscopy could cause some discomfort in that groin.  Bottom line would be to get an examination by a general surgeon or your primary care physician and get the hernia fixed!

Yes: Once the hernia repair has fully healed, usually about 4-6 weeks after surgery and when approved by your surgeon, you would then be able to return to full normal activities and exercises.

What??: What paralysis are you speaking of?  Inguinal hernia is the most common surgery done today in the us.  I have never in 20yrs of practice heard of anyone ending up with permanent paralysis.
