See your doctor: There is no over the counter replacement for codeine. There are multiple other options, but they are all controlled substances that need be prescribed by a physician. See your doctor to determine which is best for you.

A stimulant: Ephedrine (ephedrine sulfate) is similar to the stimulants the body makes itself - adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamine, and does many of the same things - raises blood pressure and pulse, is a decongestant, appetite suppressant.  Because of its risks, most doctors no longer prescribe it, and use pseudoEphedrine (ephedrine sulfate) (sudafed) instead as a decongestant mainly. It is still found in many herbal drugs, esp from china.

my daughter 15 is on ferrous sulfate (200mg 3x daily) for anemia since december. she said after an hour of taking her tablet she got diarrhea. is this normal with this medication?

: I consider it likely to be a coincidence in the description posted. If you meant to say diarrhea occurred every time she took a tablet for months it would be a different issue &amp; need an evaluation.

can you dishwash an albuterol sulfate hfa inhaler? i know the plastic could melt but i have very bad allergies that only the dishwasher can stop and the inhaler is contaminated. also what is the most i can do with the medication canister itself? ty?

: The best way to decontaminate the HFA inhaler housing is to soak in a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach in 1 quart of water. If there is obvious dirt or buildup, use a new toothbrush to brush the housing clean. the canister can also be immersed in the bleach solution. Do not put either in the dishwasher since it will melt and deform and will not be useable.

i have anemia and take iron medication (ferrous sulfate). should i continue if i recently developed hemorrhoids and the iron makes me constipated?

Tk ferrous gluconate: It's much easier on the gut, or eat spinach, dark leafy greens have a lot or iron and trace minerals. Hydrate well!

f/57 having hysteroscopy d&c tomorrow with general anesthesia .can i take my medication today.? which are paxil 40mg ativan 1mg  codeine sulfate 120mg. anastrazole 1mg i take all thsse daily.forgot to ask my doctor and today sunday clinic are close.

Hysteroscopy/D&amp;C: Patient is already scheduled for hysteroscopy/d&amp;C with general anesthesia. Patient should take paxil, Ativan and codeine today and do not take any in am. Avoid anastarzole(NSAID) today, tomorrow and resume day after surgery. Inform the anesthesiologist and your doctor of all that you took in am.
