If the child has concerning croup symptoms they should be seen by physician as they may require other medications such as steroids.  Cool air and warm moist  air can both also decrease symptoms.

Not a good idea: There are several versions of nyquil and most if not all of them contain cough medicine.  Taking another cough syrup would probably give you too much dextromethorophan.
