Accepted Answer

Not really.: Cold can help especially with cough and hoarseness.  Warm may help if you have a sore throat.  All non-caffeinated non-caloric liquid helps to make mucus loose and easier to cough up or blow.  Sniffing makes you cough.  "Blow don't sniff!"

for months now i have had a post nasal drip, that wont go away and causes an annoying cough. i have taken zertec, claritin and benedryl?

Diagnosis: You really need a proper diagnosis of your cough, it may not be nasal allergies, as it can be from sinusitis or even acid reflux. Consult your doctor or see an allergist, they can test you and help you identify the source of your symptoms. You may need a nasal spray to control the drip if the oral antihistamines don't help and it is indeed allergies you are suffering from.

i suffer from post nasal drip due to allergies which has caused a chronic cough. i recently started having breathing difficulties and started using symbicord 160 two days ago however it's making my breathing worse. can i stop using it immediately?

Asthma attack: If your asthma is worsening despite Symbicort treatment. You may need oral steroids, and an appointment with your PCP is indicated. 
In the meantime, use nasal saline spray and please avoid any triggers of your asthma such as dust or mold.

Many things: Many diseases could cause those symptoms including viral, bacterial and fungal infections, sarcoidosis, wegener's granulomatosis, malignancy, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, churg-strauss vasculitis, etc. You should see your doctor to begin a work up.

Allergies : Allergies cause rhinitis (runny nose) that causes post nasal drip.  This can cause irritation of your throat (pharyngitis).  Over-the-counter allergy medicine may help relieve it. You can try loraditine (claritin) or other previous prescription anti-allergy meds cetrizine (zyrtec).  Check with your doctor if this does not make it better in a few days, you have any medical conditions or are pregnant.

i have excessive thick post nasal drip and mucus which also causes me to cough and wheeze all the time as well as spit it up is this serious?

Needs attention: See your doctor, you may very well have chronic sinus disease, possibly affecting your lower airways causing the cough and wheeze, and you would need Rx medicines. You may also benefit by seeking an allergist/immunologist if you have access to one, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area, best wishes

? Sinusitis: can cause those symptoms, also possibility of lower airway irritation secondary to post nasal discharge, let him see his doctor or urgent care and mention that he has ? Chronic sinusitis or chronic sinus disease, a limited coronal CT study of his sinuses would readily show whether he has the disease, and antibiotics then would be needed, later he needs to see an allergist for evaluation, take care

No: In fact Zyrtec may help control a dry cough when the cough is caused by post-nasal drips.  I note that you have reflux as well and this can certainly cause a dry cough. Cough-variant asthma in which cough is the only symptom is another potential cause since allergic rhinitis are often associated with asthma.

what causes itchy gums and ears when you have a really bad cold and cough? post nasal drip too?

Allergies?: A bad cold is not expected to cause itching but an allergic reaction is.   You problem is likely from an allergic problem and the cough from post-nasal drips and/or asthma. See  allergist if these have been present for more than 2-3 weeks.
