No: It is not normal to do so.  There are several potential causes from asthma to alleric bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, so save one and bring it in to your doctor.

can i give childrens mucinex and zarbees cough and mucus together?

Nasal saline: Zarbees contains honey and this is often soothing and lessens cough. Nasal saline rinses may be as effective. Avoiding multiple over the counter medications taken together is advised. If you child does not improve, has respiratory difficulty or a fever for more than 2 days, please see your pediatrician.

Cough: Use over the counter delsym for the cough. Any times the coughs are due to allergies.  You may want to try am antihistimine over the counter like Claritin (loratadine) or the nasalcort  steroid spray.  The steroid spray is the best choice and most efficacious.  Good luck.  Feel better.

See a Dr!: Depending on the level of difficulty, you may need to go to the ER, or at least give your Dr a call!  Sometimes people can have a heart attack, and their only complaint is difficulty breathing, so don't ignore this!  If it is just mild difficulty and has been developing gradually it is probably not an emergency.  Things like emphysema, adult onset asthma can also cause difficulty breathing.

Postnasal drip: Most like causes of chronic cough in adults are chronic bronchitis (smokers with yellow am sputum), gastric reflux, cough variant asthma, allergy, and post nasal drip.  Most cause dry cough but sometimes can expectorate clear saliva or mucous which is of infrequent concern especially if normal chest x-ray and no breathing problems.  Average healthy nose makes 1-1.5 pints of mucous daily!

Windpipe: This may be an aftermath of tracheal irritation after a viral upper respiratory tract infection which was associated with coughing up mucus. This residual irritation should eventually resolve without antibiotics unless you are coughing up discolored sputum in which case you should consult your physician for treatment.

Depends: If the cough has lasted more than two weeks, you should see a doctor. If you have blood in the mucus, lose weight or get fever, see a doctor.
