Throat culture: The best way to know is to see a doctor, get examined and have a throat culture done. In the meantime you can gargle with warm salt water with turmeric and lemon a few times a day for comfort. I hope you feel better soon.

Cough: Depends on what you mean by chronic. The most important thing is to find the cause. Over the counter preparations mostly do not work well.  If you are a smoker stop.  Worth discussing with your GP to investigate the cause instead of only treating the symptoms.
