Iron taste in cough: Likely  you are tasting iron. When you cough a lot you irritate the tissue and get a bit of bleeding, Blood and myoglobin in muscles contains iron, it is the component of hemoglobin in our red blood cells that attaches to oxygen so you are tasting iron. That is why for many people when  anemic they take iron supplements.

It may be: Is it iron or copper that you're tasting?  Different causes.  Would be advisable to see your General Physician, a Pulmonologist, or an ENT.  Bad taste can also be from infection in your mouth, such as infected gums.  Better have your Dentist also take a look, especially if you don't floss daily.

However eosinophilia is connected with parasite infections which can also cause diarrhea.  Low iron levels could mean she is loosing blood in her stool a sign of inflammatory bowel disease.  It sounds like your provider is doing the work-up.  Be sure to continue to follow-up.

I don't blame him: But why would a healthy 6 months old need iron for? you may want to give more mashed potatoes and other vegetables and fruits instead, that if you're exclusively breastfeeding, if not , all cow's milk formulas have enough iron, other minerals and vitamins that he needs till age 24 months
