Depends: If your leg actually feels cool to the touch, that is serious and you should go to the er.  If its a subjective sensation, let your doctor know.

Likely nerve problem: Your skin has tons of nerve endings.  When they get hurt, your nerves may get very inflamed causing the burning sensation.  Ice and cool rag may make it feel cooler, but as long as the nerve is agitated and inflamed, it will continue to feel as if it is burning.  It is hard to say when it will stop since nerves may take awhile to heal or improve if it is not permanently damaged.

jus dx w/lupus. i have a burning sensation from foot up to leg and sort of feels cool when i rub the painful leg. any idea if i'm heading for a flare?

Depends on your data: This depends on the  database  to diagnose your lupus. These symptoms suggest neurologic issues  but you need to discuss with your physician and your rheumatologist. It could also be  soft  tissue rheumatism. This may not signal a flare at al. Your physician can guide you

Neuropathy: Hi EternalC, this sounds alot like the beginning of diabetic neuropathy. This is where the nerves that supply sensory information become dysfunctional from high blood sugars. It can be everything from numbness to pain to sensory changes. It is not reversible, but can be delayed or stopped with good blood glucose control. If you have pain, certain meds like gabapentin can be helpful.

i've been having pain and burning sensations and warm and cool feelings in my upper left leg for about a week. seems to be spreading and is constant. ?

See your doctor: You need first to give a good history such as did you have any trauma for instance?  You need to see your doctor for a complete evaluation

i have cis (ms) with only one lesion at c5/c6. problem is back of left nasal canal/soft palette becomes irritated/cold when aggravated by wind or cool indoor air, this in turn causes sensations of buzzing and vibrations in legs. why? how to resolve?

: Address the nasal, palatal, and likely sinus, issues by a visit to an otolaryngologist.  Get this part diagnosed and treated, as it has no connection to Multiple Sclerosis.  Regarding the leg sensations, this indeed could be due to spinal cord lesions.  Have your doctors imaged the spinal cord?  You may find out information from a spinal tap looking at oligoclonal bands.  Discuss these issues.

after a 4 mile walk in cool weather ( 40s) i had strange reaction on both thighs. intense itching like legs were on fire, little prickly sensations. lasted about 30 min. used hydrocortisone and after an hour looked ok . any ideas?

Blood flow changes: If the symptoms did not persists, this appears to be compatible with changes in blood flow caused by muscle contraction during exercise, and it is a normal reaction during and after exercise.
Please continue to monitor and if these symptoms recur/persists, consult with your PCP.

Circulation: Have to ask if you don't have a problem with blood flow to that area? Do you have diabets, high cholesterol, pain on walking?

Neuropathy : Is likely. Has a long list of causes and would need to see a doctor in person to make an accurate diagnosis.

i constantly get numbing sensation in my legs. what causes this?

Neuropathy: This can be a compressed nerve in your spine or if you have diabetes this can cause general  damage  over time.
