Right away: Cpm can be used immediately after surgery especially if a epidural catheter is in place.

1 hours: Ideally you should be placed on it in the recovery room whole still sedated.  Once you are able to move the knee on your own, the benefit of continuous passive motion is less apparent.

For some: I have patients who have reported to me that the back to life machine works for back pain.  I have not heard report about hip pain but patients whose hip region pain was related to the back did report relief.  This is only information reported to me by patients using the product.

Yes And no: I would recommend that you work closely with the physical therapist. If you had prior back pain you could make it worse.

Accepted Answer

Yes: A stepper machine should be fine, especially if progressively increased in difficulty.  For my patients with back/joint pain, i generally recommend avoiding impact activities such as running.  Unfortunately, any activity has the potential for causing pain, but in most cases the pain does not mean that any damage is being done.  See your physician if you are unable to exercise without severe pain.

Yes: Not sure about the specific machine, but exercise (even appropriate resistance training) will improve the back pain.  Take it easy to begin.

i have pvcs, which are controlled with 50mg per day of metoprolol er. is it safe for me to use a tens machine for sciatica/back pain?

Yes.: There is nothing about the "electricity" in a TENS that will affect the heart in any way.

Anxiety and Stress: can create dramatic sensations and symptoms. Depending on the cause of your anxiety symptoms, your doctor (GP) can provide you with diagnosis and treatment options or referral to a specialist.

Sore muscles: Or pinched nerve maybe from disc in lower back pressing on them. Lay flat, if someone massages your calf when you lay flat causes you pain: it's likely sore muscles.  Still laying flat, stretching the nerve by flexing one leg, (other leg remaining flat) towards sky: pain from back down the leg is pinched nerve.

Accepted Answer

Common problems: Back pain is common after abdominal surgery due to position on the operating table.  Problems with bowel movements are also common, due to pain meds and stress of surgical procedure and general anesthesia. These should all slowly get better within 6-12 weeks after the operation. There is of course high variability Amon individuals. Hope this helps!
