Impaction: Assuming no other issues, it's certainly possible for an impaction to allow diarrheal stool to leak by only to be followed by constipation again. Just to be safe, talk to your family doctor about whether a colonoscopy is warranted, especially if you've had unintended weight loss, bloody or tarry stools, ribbon flat stool or pencil thin stool.

Yes: Irritable bowel syndrome (ibs) includes a spectrum of clinical presentations, including (1) diarrhea-predominant, (2) constipation-predominant, and (3) mixed type with alternating diarrhea and constipation. Mixed-type IBS sometimes respondes to fibercon tablets (calcium polycarbophil) 2 tabs twice a day. It is mportant to rule out lactose-intolerance and celiac disease.

This is common: Experiencing a little diarrhea after taking a laxative and getting results is not unusual. If the laxative aids in overcoming a partial blockage, when that is cleared there could be some loose stool up in the bowel behind it. It is common and not dangerous. Focus on lots of fruits/vegetables/healthy grains and a lot of drinking water so you don't need to take medication for constipation. Stay well

Well...........: Even if a certain part of the intestine's response to infection is to make diarrhea more likely, it's not that simple. Bacterial toxins and infection also contribute. 
Nowadays the use of lomotil (diphenoxylat and atropine) or stool anti softener is considered okay. If you have constipation, it means your diarrhea is over.

Eat a healthy: High fiber diet, drink 80-100 ounces of caffeine free/ alcohol free fluid daily and if you haven't been seen by a colorectal surgeon or GI doctor do so and get a workup, if indicated, and some more specific help with your irregularity. May need colonoscopy and or xrays.

See below: This could be something called encopresis. This can be caused by long standing constipation. I normally treat this with 6 months of miralax (polyethylene glycol).
