why isn't the pain constant with tn?

Lucky it's not: Good question. I don't think there is a simple answer for this. Possibly the irritated trigeminal nerve fatigues or is suppressed by the brain. A similar situation might be epilepsy where the damaged area only gets triggered periodically. Most people with tn couldn't stand having the pain constantly.

Maybe GAD?: Generalized anxiety disorder (gad) is a pattern of constant worry and anxiety over many different activities and events.  Symptoms can include impaired sleep, concentration, irritability, muscle tension and finding it hard to relax. Individual psychotherapy can be very helpful. Some studies suggest a combination of medicine and cognitive-behavioral therapy (cbt) works best. Start with your doc!

If they find nothing, go see a cognitive behavioral therapist who can teach you skills to identify and modify distorted thinking and adopt accurate, realistic, and helpful ways of thinking about yourself, the world, and others. Make sure you eat healthy and exercise regularly. A healthy body makes a healthy mind & gives you less to worry about.
