Probably not: He may have been using some new muscles (in different ways than usually). Any new activity can sometimes cause some muscle strains. If he is walking fine and able to move around easily, just keep an eye on him. If he keeps limping for a day or so, has a fever, or seems sick, see your pediatrician.

In cases of Osteoarthritis, it is due to over-use of the joints and that what causes the pain 
Injections of steroid might help to reduce the pain temporarily but might not cure the problem
