what causes hiccups after surgery?

Anything that: Irritates the diaphragm can cause hiccoughs.  After surgery, stomach can get distended and irritate diaphragm.  Or any collection of blood or fluid under the right or left diaphragm can cause them too.

i have a polycystic lt ovary with 5 cysts and re grown a cyst on my rt after surgery 6 mths ago , i'm constantly in pain , should i get them removed ?

Diagnosis?: Before you consider getting anything removed you need a diagnosis to explain "why" you have pain. Polycystic ovaries are never a cause of pelvic pain. If you mean ovarian cysts OTHER than polycystic ovaries, maybe, but not PCOS. If your doctor(s) cannot explain to you, I'd get another opinion from an expert on your best plan... shame to remove ovaries and still hurt. Good wishes!

pain left side after d & c, polypectomy (ies). its similar to my ovarian cyst pain ( every cycle) but constant for 3 days now- after surgery. do you think the surgery aggravated the cyst?

: I doubt that these procedures would directly affect your ovarian cyst. If you have persistent pelvic discomfort, especially with associated tenderness, you should be evaluated and advised by your gynecologist.

i had hip arthroscopic surgery, 3 months after surgery i did squats with weight, i now have constant stinging deep in my hip,what should i do?

Ask orthopedics: Your symptoms could be caused by a variety of things. One of the things your orthopedic physician will do is to look at your labrum. This may be the source of your symptoms. See your orthopedic physician and have this clarified.

doctor did not reccommend physical therapy after surgery what should i do? i had ankle surgery on feb. 8, and was released to walk on it again on the 4th of april. i am walking on it now, but i am constantly in pain and it stays swollen. my doctor did not

I : I would call your doctor's office and advise of your symptoms. Rate your pain on a one to ten scale with one being the lowest and ten being the highest and describe where the pain and the swelling are.  The doctor or one of his or or her staff will then provide further guidance. Take care.

Hiccup: Depends on type of surgery and location. Could be irritation of diaphram after abdominal surgery. Talk to the surgeon.

my husband had minor surgery, 12 hours later he developed hiccups. could the anesthesia drugs cause the hiccups. they having been going on for 2 hrs. ?

Hiccups: This could be related to having surrey of the abdomen or general anesthesia. It should go away in time.

just had septoplasm and sinus surgery. . now at home. have had 4 separate hours of hiccups today. any idea why and how to stop?

Anesthesia: Rare, but is possible after anesthesia.  Call your surgeon to obtain prescription which will help you to stop hiccups.

why am i experiencing unending hiccups after arthroscopic shoulder surgery?

Nerve irritation: Peripheral nerve blocks are commonly done for post-operative pain control in arthroscopic shoulder surgery.  Sometimes the phrenic nerve can become irritated and produce hiccups.  The phrenic nerve innervates the diaphragm and is located in the neck, close to the nerves that go down the arm.  These symptoms should go away on their own, if not contact your shoulder surgeon.

still hiccuping after eating 3 months post-nissen fundoplication. is this permanent? otherwise, surgery was complete success.

Hiccups post Nissen: This is likely related to ingesting air. Many reflux patients swallow air. This behavior must be "unlearned". It often resolves with time but takes months.  Delayed gastric emptying is also possible.  Try simethicone to see if it improves symptoms.  Also avoid carbonation, gum, straws, raw veggies, and crunchy foods as these all increase gastric air swallowing.
