Many use it longer: You should find out why you have chronic constipation first such as ruling out thyroid disease etc..If no underlying disease, try the natural way such as fibers, roughage, and adequate fluid daily. This med is relatively safe to use and many patients use it for months to yrs. Like any other med, use smallest effective dose for shortest possible time. Consult doc. Good luck.

Yes: Colyte (polyethylene glycol) is used to completely empty out the colon (large intestine) before a colonoscopy, so the doctor can actually see the inside walls of the colon, to look for cancers, polyps and other abnormalities. Unfortunately, the prep is a bit unpleasant, but if the prep is incomplete, the colonoscopy will just have to be repeated. Best to use as directed until nothing but clear fluid is passing through.

Several: I like MoviPrep as it is only 2 liters and very well tolerated by patients and with excellent visualization. Suprep and osmo prep are other alternatives. Ask you endoscopist for options he/she is comfortable with.

Constipation: Having bowel  movement upto every 3 days could be normal for some patients.  However, if you have longer that this and stool is hard, required straining is abnormal.  Try to have adequate hydration, consume adequate amount of fiber, add fiber supplement (goal of 25-30 grams of fiber total).  Make sure you titrate fiber intake.  Do not take high amount of fiber at start.  Can take MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) twice/day.

Should be: In spite of the catchy name mirilax is less of a laxative and more of a wetting agent. Instead of making your bowel muscles push the poo around like some laxatives, it just refuses to let the water it absorbs be removed, preserving the wetness of your poo as it moves through.Too much of anything can make you loose, but i wouldn't expect a blowout.
