Colon resection: Colovesicle fistula is usually secondary to diverticulitis with perforation into the bladder.  A colonoscopy will see any colon abnormalities pre op.

how common are colovesical fistulas ? i have uti that hasnt gone away but they did change my antibiotics. i had mild diverticulitis few years ago and spoke to my gi and hes not too concerned about it being possible colovesical fistula. thanks?

: Yes, diverticulitis is among the conditions that could lead to a colovesical fistula. But normal urinalysis is nearly 100% evidence against it. Discuss with the doctor who manages your diverticulosis.

: How can you tell you have bubbles in your urine? Have you seen the bubble coming out from your urethra opening or just the bubbles in the toilet bowl? If just the bubbles or foam in the toilet bowl, they are normal. Colovesical fistula is a serious issue, your urine will be  infected, besides bubbles urine is very turbid because colon contains tons of bacteria. Normal UA rules out this condition.

Start with fiber: Fiber supplements will bulk the stool which can stretch the spastic internal sphincter that is the cause of fissure pan. Sitz baths also sooth the muscle.  The addition of Diltiazem or Nifedipine or Nitroglycerin cream may ALS help. If medical therapy fails the surgery has highest cure rate.

Witch hazel (tucks (witch hazel) pads) can help. Some relief in a day or two usually. It may take several weeks for the fissure to heal completely. Sometimes fissures heal without treatment. May require surgery.

Speak to your doctor: If you've started a regimen of with your physician, then you should let them know that you've stopped, because they may have in mind a certain course of action for you, in terms of outcomes. They are also assuming that you are completing it. Ask this same question to your doctor. They will give you some insight into how important it is to keep your regimen going to completion.
