Survival ?: Stage 4  colon Ca spread to liver and lungs have a poor prognosis unless the degree of liver involvement is  small and only a few lung lesions present. The lung lesions can be removed with a thorascope leaving only the liver as the site of spread.  Here microwave ablation, chemo embolization or radiolabelled microspheres can then be used.  There are several immunotherapy protocols available.

Not enough: Need to assess for Kras and Nras mutation IF she is wild type she should receive FOLFIRI  and Erbitux

If she has mutation the treatment of choice FOLFOX and Avastin

Life expex 22 - 26 months... If responsive disease can be extended with other agents and survival can extend several years.

New agents add to OS   sequencing of therapy is important to extend Overal survival

Variable: There is &gt;50% chance that your colon cancer is cured with surgery already, in which case your life expectancy should be like a normal healthy person. You may benefit from treatment using adjuvant chemotherapy, if your tumor had spread/involved the lymph nodes in the abdomen. Check with your doctor and let us know how many nodes were involved with your tumor?

Yes: NOT "curable" but definitely treatable...Direct perfusion anti-neoplastic drugs for one approach and possible immune therapy on the "horizon" ...A positive attitude is necessary and helpful.. METASTATIC .CANCER IS A CHRONIC DISEASE!

No: If there are only a few cancer areas (nodules) surgery may be an option. Depends on the number and location of the cancerous nodules, a surgeon should review a CAT scan of the liver.

: That's a good question.  I do feel it is important to feel comfortable with the doctors and team taking care of your (or your husbands) health.  When you are dealing with a fairly serious disease, such as stage 4 cancer, I do think that getting another teams perspective is reasonable.  Not all cancer centers use the same approach, and one may have options not available at another.  I wish you well
