Most often not STD: It is usually herpes simplex virus i but  there is a chance it could be herpese simplex virus ii.

Viral infestion: Your bf could have developed a viral infection.  If the sore was painful it could be herpes.

Oral herpes?: A single cold sore usually is recurrence of longstanding oral herpes. If you acquired new oral herpes from kissing, probably you would have multiple sores, sore throat, etc. So my guess is you didn't catch this from the stranger's kiss. STDs are not transmitted by kissing (except oral herpes, which isn't considered an STD). See a doctor to confirm diagnosis, but testing may not be free.

Aphtous: Probably an aphthous ulcer. They typically occur on the lips and gums. They can be very tender and can be mistaken for herpes.

No worries: You chances of an STD from a kiss are minimal to none.  Canker sores are not viral, cold sores are and the difference between the two can be determined on exam.  Cold sores, caused by a herpes virus, can lead to transmission of the virus but this is not considered an STD and is not the same as genital herpes. .

what would purple marks on the lips be? like spots, almost like bruising/blood under skin but doesn't hurt. could this be an std? its not a cold sore.

Purple marks on lips: You have to see your doctor or a dermatologist to have a proper diagnosis. There are a number of different possibilities. The most likely is a vascular one such as a venous lake.  However many lesions on the lips can reflect a systemic condition like osler-weber-rendu.

im std free but for hsv1 i had 2.82h igg. doc says its an old infection from a cold sore. never had symptoms, paranoid though. is it an old infection?

Old infection: IgG supports prior infection, not acute infection
HSV 1 is mostly NOT genitial herpes and many persons are exposed and do not have symptoms.  cold sores are indeed a common presentation and overall are not harmful. I would reassure you not to per "paranoid" although I understand the terminology is "scary"

STD and cold sores: A cold sore on the face  is mostly a herpes  1 infection. Herpes 1 and herpes 2 can cause infection genitally and around mouth area. The viruses are the same and can be transmitted similarly. An STD is a disease that is transmitted sexually. These viruses can be distinguished in a lab not visually. A herpes 1 infection that had been transmitted sexually would be called an STD.

what counts as a sore that can contract an std, aside from cold sores, by kissing?  does it have to be a bleeding sore or does any sore pose a risk?

Open sore: Any ulceration can be problematic and either represent an infection or develop into an infection. If a ulcer (sore) is present it needs proper wound care. Please see your doctor.

Not necessarily: Cold sores are relatively common and can be acquired without sexual contact.Some kids have them from an early age.The strain of herpes differs to some extent, from that of genital disease.However, those who engage  in oral sex with someone shedding the genital virus can acquire cold sores from that contact.
