Acne: Small blackheads are called closed comedones.  These are blocked pores which have become infected or blocked with hardened (oxidized) oil.  Blackheads will increase in areas with increased friction or sweating, and during changes in hormone levels.

Maybe so...: Sometimes it is a mixture of dead skin cells, sometimes it is sebum (creamy oil from the sebaceous glands in the skin), and sometimes it is both things. Vigorously trying to get the stuff out can lead to "inflammation" of the skin glands and skin pores, which then leads to rashes and pimples.

ive got clogged pores. please i need help. its so bad. i use the cerave blemish control cleanser and cerave gel cream with 2% salicylic acid and i exfoliate once a week as well. i do this consistently. its been 3 weeks but nothing has changed? :?

Clogged vs open pore: Open pores are normal. Some opens are small while others are large. Some topical treatments like AHA's can help reduce the size of open pores. Clogged pores have something stuck in them. Usually sebum, the normal substance that the glands produce. If it becomes dry, it makes a plug. Skin can also grow over the exit to the pores blocking them. Looking at them is enough to make the diagnosis.

No perfect solution: There is no perfect solution - you should wash well, pat dry and there are prescription meds that can help.   Poking, picking and squeezing can actually make things worse and you should refrain from this.

See a dermatologist: There is adapalene, tazarotene, and numerous forms of tretinoin. A skin specialist can work with you improve your skin.

Dosage: I'm guessing you are referring to the topical version of it. If the dosage is too low then you could still have some keratin buildup. You can consider increasing the dosage if your skin tolerates it or consider adding salicylic acid to your facial wash routine.
