If you take claritin-your body converts it into clarinex. Another example is Nexium (esomeprazole) and prilosec.

Clarinex is available as a tablet, reditab, oral solution and as a combination product with a decongestant.

Allergies: It may work immediately, it could take day or weeks. It depends on the enviroment/winds (some weeks are worse than other), the severity or mildness of your allergies.  There is stepwise approach for allergy eval & treatment (many time requires combination of med, allergy testing etc. Depends on patient).  Usually I do follow ups 3-4 weeks at time to allow med to work and weather to change.

Expiration date: Check the expiration date on the medication label.  The potency of the medication cannot be guaranteed beyond the expiration date.  A medication without potency very likely has less effectiveness.

Yes: Clarinex (desloratadine) has only slight differences in chemical structure from the original product of Claritin and in my clinical experience you will not notice any difference in relieving your allergy symptoms.
