Most are not!: Curiously, most us osteopaths do not practice osteopathic manipulation, the original basis of their profession; most practice only allopathic medicine. But a minority do practice manipulation with great skill. While there are many fine chiropractors, many are not so great. Some for some issues: Research suggests that chiropractic treatment is safe and effective for back and neck pain and migraine headaches. Just as not all medical doctors are the same, i find some chiropractors give much higher quality care than others. I prefer chiropractors who use more gentle styles like direct non-force, network and activator techniques. I am wary of those who advise long-term treatment.

Accepted Answer

Induce labor? No.: No, chiropractors do not induce labor. Chiropractors are not allowed to prescribe, dispense, or administer medications as this falls outside of their primary training. It is possible that some claim to have special "chiropractic techniques" for inducing labor without drugs, but more likely they just do helpful massage, plus movements and  positioning of a woman's back, hips, and legs.

Musculoskeletal : Issues. They normally treat misalignment issues related to the neck, back and joints with manual manipulation.

No limits: Most chiropractors have been taught that deep manipulation of the back can treat anything.  They actually are operating with an outmoded, discredited theory and so as long as you understand they offer only a deep massage and no diagnosis or cure for anything, then that is what to expect.  Always see your regular doctor first.

Some do: They also ask that you drink lots of water. The sore muscles that are inflamed need to decrease in swelling and thus decrease pressure on nerves.

See a MEDICAL doctor: The more common causes of lower back pain include:  back muscle strain, back ligament sprain, fractured vertebra (spondylolysis), slipped vertebra (spondylolisthesis), sciatica, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, spinal arthritis, urine infection, kidney infection or stone; tumor in the spine, kidney, or elsewhere; etc...  With such a long list of possibilities, one should see a medical doctor.

Hypertension: There are studies that show therapeutic manipulation helps treatment of high blood pressure.  Other than that, studies are still needed to show systematic manipulation can benefit other pathologies.

what are the benefits of seeing a chiropractor?

Accepted Answer

As an orthopedist-: -I actually see no benefit for major orthopedic problems. 4 sore or acing back or other things of this sort may make you feel better but if left alone the will clear by themselves.
