It may be encopresis: Encopresis can be caused by physical or psychological problems but is usually a result of chronic constipation. Your child should be seen by his pediatrician  who may refer you to a specialist. For further work up or treatment.  This condition may have serious medical or psycho-social consequences for the child and should be diagnosed treated expeditiously.

Change food: Give him/her sweet potato, avocado daily. Use a good probiotic daily. Give him/her milk of magnesia 2-3 drops/day x 2 days. stop all grains, cereals, milk products.  Things should start moving in 24-48 hours. If not, consult pediatrician.

Malabsorption: Could not be absorbing foods. Seek the help of a pediatrician to weigh and review your childs diet and history of illness.

Maybe: Assuming your child is growing and developing normally, and eats a diet full of fruits and vegetables, it may be normal for her to have 8 bms/day.  Most us children have 1-2 bm/day.  Is this a new pattern?  Are they diarrheal or small hard pebbles?  Mucus or flecks of blood?  This is something you should discuss with her doctor.

Hydrate: One of the main jobs of the colon, or large intestine, is to recover water from the things we eat and drink and our body adds(saliva, stomach acid, bile& digestive enzymes) as we swallow and digest food.
If your child's stool is hard; it hurts .More water and some prune juice    never hurt.
There are some diseases that interfere with normal bm's and a talk with your dr may help.

No: Pale colored stool in children is usually a transient phenomenon.  Seek medical attention if the condition persists or child develops jaundice.

Coprophagia: Nothing! the child will be fine and his parents may be grossed out. The worst that might happen is that he might vomit. There are no other medical consequences to this very common event.

Depends   : It's hard to discuss without knowing what "special needs" means. If he is a teenager that really should be able to control his bowel movements, it could be encopresis. Essentially it happens when a child is so constipated, that the stool leaks around the impaction. If that what it is, treatment is aimed at managing the constipation. I often refer to the gastroenterologist.

Yes- anal stenosis: As the intestine forms, it starts out like a long sausage that eventually forms an open space thru the middle.This gut descends to meet the skin of the outside (a different cell type) & the joining point can be tight or never actually connect. If a gloved little finger can easily enter the bottom, that is not the problem.Discuss the issue with your dr.
