Rash, fever: Chicken pox in a baby will start as a rash just as it would in older children.  The rash often starts out on the abdomen, and is papulopustular in appearance.  Itching is quite common. There may be associated fever, and upper respiratory symptoms.  Babies may get quite sick from the chicken pox so if unvaccinated, should seek medical care.

Several weeks: The maternal transmitted immunity only is protective for several weeks. A 7 month old child is not protected. If he has been exposed to his Dad he may get chickenpox. This would happen up to 3 weeks after the exposure. It is unlikely an early immunization would help. All the best and I hope he escapes the illness.

Sure: Chicken pox starts as small reddish spots, which form a very small fluid-filled blister in the middle of each spot.  The small blister breaks easily when rubbed, releasing a tiny drop of clear yellowish fluid.  Each spot then forms a small scab. If the mom was immune, her antibodies may protect the baby from age 0-6 months. At age 6-12 months, the baby might not be immune. Can get vaccine at 12mo.
