Elaborate please: You should not have a dilated cervix if you are 28 weeks pregnant. I am presuming your provider told you that you were dilated and has taken the necessary precautions. If not seek medical attention immediately.

Yes: "open cervix", not sure exactly what does it mean, but if sexually active and no method of contraception you can get pregnant, whether pregnancy would continue with "open cervix" ,  yet to be seen

The birth control: Has nothing to do with the position of your cervix, it sounds like you have some uterine prolapse , your gyn can do an exam and find out because if u do you may need surgery to fix the problem.

Yes: Size of the cervix should not prevent a normal vaginal birth.  A cervix too short, too early can lead to preterm birth.  Close follow up by your dr can help predict a risk.

i have heard of precancerous cells of the cervix clearing after birth, could the same be said following an abortion?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: I&#x27;m not aware of any data shoing that cervical dysplasia (precancerous cells), or the HPV infection that causes it, clear up more rapidly after abortion than otherwise. And clearance after delivery is questionable. What probably happens is that clearance is delayed by natural immune suppression during pregnancy, and after delivery there is catch-up clearance as the immune system returns to normal.

Return to "normal"?: The opening of the cervix(cervical os) that dilates during birth closes over 2 to 6 weeks. If this is a first birth, then the cervical size and shape does not ever quite return to the never pregnant  configuration.

Sometimes: If you have an IUD, sometimes it will hurt in the cervix if it dislodges.  Other types of birth control---NO

Parous cervix: If you have had a miscarriage or termination of pregnancies then the opening of the cervix will be more open(parous).

Accepted Answer

"redness": cervix: A "parous cervix" indicates having had a vaginal delivery.  The cervix can be inflamed secondary to vaginal infections, and the resultant covering of the (visible) external cervix with cells from the internal cervical canal can give the appearance you describe. This can lead to some bleeding with sexual activity, but is not dangerous.  See your gyn provider for possible treatment.

Cervical tear(scar): The process of dilation and delivery may have caused a cervical or vaginal tear that has scar tissue in it causing your pain. Please see a gyn md fro evaluation.
