It Depends: After a spine injury, surgery can be an option if the spine is rendered unstable or if there is a pinched nerve or spinal cord.  Xrays and cat scan can detect most surgically significant spinal instabilities, while an MRI is the best test to evaluate the status of the neural elements within the spine.

Neck pain causes: Yes. Slip and falls can alter function which over time can lead to other chronic issues and /or degeneration. You can certainly sustain a whiplash type of injury.

A : A new definitive treatment option was recently introduced to pain specialists a few years ago called lumbar facet fusion. Patients who continue to suffer from low back pain related to facet arthropathy, and who have failed to obtain long-term relief from conservative measures, including radiofrequency ablation, are potential candidates.  The procedure involves placing erasure-sized bone plugs into the facet joints, which immobilize them, and later cause them to fuse.  This is not as drastic as a lumbar fusion, which would really not be indicated for this type of problem.  The success rate is high, but requires that you have your symptoms reviewed by a specialist familiar with this procedure prior to treatment.  You can find information on this procedure on the web; the best known is called trufuse.

Hope superficial: If merely a soft tissue problem, should respond to heat, relaxation, perhaps massage or acupuncture.   Recommend an otc anti-inflammatory such as tylenol (acetaminophen) or aleve.  If things do not stabilize after a few days, check with doctor about more intensive evaluation.

What symptoms?: You will need to see a spinal specialist to evaluate you and then diagnose your injury (if any), and then recommend appropriate treatment. A simple fall can lead to no injury or major injury like a spinal fracture/dislocation which may lead to immediate onset vs. Later onset neurologic deficit.

Neck pain: Cortisone shots are a mainstay for the treatment of neck pain. Whiplash injury is an outdated term and really doesn't describe the type of problem that you are suffering from. See a neurosurgeon to help explain the problem and to develop a focused treatment plan to reduce or eliminate the pain.

Potentially: An MRI is a pretty sensitive test for the spine.  It would show if you have sustained any damage to the discs, veterbrae, facet joints and ligaments of the spine in general.

Can't move legs...: That's very strange, unless you have a true spinal cord injury... Please have yourself evaluated soon as true weakness is a bad sign....!

No: Minor spine injuries do not cause dystonia. Consult a neurologist to find the cause of your problem.
