Medication risks: The biggest concern for using such medication in children is for injuries that could result.  For instance,the spray form could be inhaled, and the lozenge form could cause choking or injury from biting on a numb tongue.  Use Ibuprofen for pain control instead.

Post-tonsillectomy: You can use Chloraseptic spray after tonsillectomy, but it usually provides limited, short term relief. Talk to your surgeon about his/her preferences. I tell my patients they can use it, but as I mentioned, it is of limited use. Sometimes 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water to rinse and swish is soothing-no gargling. Besides that, take whatever pain Rx your doctor recommended.

Not much: A little bit is ok.  I mean after all, you put the stuff in your mouth, how can you not swallow any?  Its certainly not poisonous.

I s'pose if you swallow to much, your body will try to get rid of it quickly, ie: you'll throw up.

Chloraseptic: Chloraseptic spray is an over the counter anesthetic for the throat. It is generally safe, however, you should not take more than the recommended dose written onthe bottle.

Depends: It depends on your symptoms. Generally, you can take one every 4 hours as needed for pain. If they don't help. Stop taking them and try warm salt water gargles.

No.: Not recommended, but a small swallow won't hurt you.
