Not if you are numb: If your tooth is numbed up with a local anesthetic, there is nothing to feel. Some small fillings do not require local anesthesia. Everyone has different pain thresholds. Often, "sweet air" alone is sufficient to negate the need for local anesthesia. Discuss this issue with your own dentist.

In some advanced, abscess cases, anesthetic doesn't work 100%. In those cases, i'll prescribe antibiotics and home care remedies until infection subsides and then provide therapy. Much more confortable for both of us!

Depends: I have been able to catch early decay and use laughing gas without anesthetic to fill a tooth. I normally numb so work with your dentist and do what is best to do the procedure correctly.

Fillings: That are minor/small many times do not even need anesthesia. If you require anesthesia ask the doctor to use an anesthetic without Epinephrine so it will not last as long(gen an hr with this type) and though you may feel numb and weird you will not look weird. Talk to your dentist.

Needs evaluation: Please call your dentist for an evaluation.  May be as simple as the filling needing a very slight adjustment, or as complex as the nerve of the tooth dying.  Your dentist can determine the cause of your soreness and can help you resolve the problem.

IDK: You need to see your dentist to find out what is wrong. This is absolutely is not normal. It might be any number of things- the same tooth or perhaps an adjacent one. Your dentist can determine the cause and suggest treatment. If he\she can't, consult with another dentist.

i had a filling on 4-2. one on each side. i had no pain or issues and had no idea i had two cavities.  since the fillings one side hurts when i chew.

Check bite relation: May need occlusal (bite) adjustment on the side that hurts. Ask your dentist to check.
