Constriciton in flow: The audible soundof snoring is caused by a constrition of airflow, typically by tissues of the throat, uvulae, tongue, or somewhere in the airway. As we relax the muscles during sleep, the airway gets blocked, and the tissues flutter. Sometimes the airway gets completely blocked. This is called sleep apnea and can be quite serious.  Talk to your md to determine if a sleep study is appropriate.

Vibrations in throat: It is usually caused by vibrations in the throat area.  Possible cures include sleeping on your side, loosing weight, surgery, and an oral appliance.  If the self help options don't work i would see a physician to rule out a life threatening condition called sleep apnea.  If you don't have sleep apnea, then i would consider the other options.

Tongue blocks: Snoring is caused by a partial or sometimes s full obstruction of our airway in the back of our throat. In many, our sleeping position causes the snoring, in some the relationships of the tongue, the palate and the back of the throat become loose and not coordinated,  That produces obstruction and in some sleep apnea, or not breathing by the obstruction. Common: get followup: Tonsils can often grow faster than a kid does until they are about 7-8 ; any infections will add to the size. Snoring kids need to be monitored for sleep problems ; occasionally will need a sleep study to rule out sleep apnea. If you hear gaps in the kids snoring of more that 15 sec, record it ; see your pcp/ent about a study. This might need a little more time to improve but surgery may be needed.
