Contact dermatitis: Sounds like you got into contact with something that irritated the skin on your hands. Think carefully about any new products, soaps, laundry detergents, etc, and try to avoid them. Were you out in the woods near poison ivy perhaps? Use a gentle moisturising cream like cetaphil or neutragena if the skin is dry. Use hydrocortisone 1% twice a day for up to 10d if it starts to itch.

Seeing is helpful.: There are many conditions to consider, especially without the privilege of actually seeing the your condition. One of particular consideration would be dishydrotic dermatitis. This is more commonly known as pomppholyx.

See a doctor: Their isn't a condition of histamine intolerance.  There are multiple reasons why your son may have itchy spots, and the rash needs to be seen to identify the cause.  It could be infection, and a reaction to an allergen.
